Call of Monster : status

A quick word on the competition

If you are looking for call of duty forums today, you’re likely going to land on codforums dot com.

You should be aware that if you ever register on Carlos’ forums (the admin), he will never delete your account as he doesn’t give a fuck about GDPR (and you can not do it without his blessing), plus he will ban you (so you won’t be able to interact anymore, even if you remained polite in your demand). I guess this is also one way to keep the stats only growing and show some big numbers (as he is working in marketing).

Not super honest in my opinion but heh, that’s his domain, he’s in the U.S. and GDPR probably won’t apply there as the forums are not explicitly targeting EU users.
So unless you’re ready to lawyer up, be careful with your data down there.

That said, there are some nice folks on the forums to discuss with, even if a big piece of them now won’t play CoD anymore. Those are mostly the core members, as his forums were created in 2009.

So why Call of Monster ?

Well, you probably guessed it from the first part, but I’m not a big fan of codforums.
The site and forums are really outdated and the admin - on top of not respecting your personal data - doesn’t play at call of anymore (and has no idea on how to play modern cods to be honest), so it feels a bit like visiting a care home .

Hence starting this community, a fresh start for people who ACTUALLY play the game.
I’m in my 40s, and I think that social media should complete the kind of forums like this one (based on discourse by the way), not replace them.
I’ve heard that younger people have mostly moved on from forums to TikTok and Discord. I think they each serve a different purpose, though. I do use Discord myself — it’s fantastic for voice chat — but for actual writing and having more structured discussions, I find it pretty lacking. I’m not really a TikTok fan (yeah, I know I sound like an old fart now…), but I can see why it’s convenient for quickly posting short videos.

What’s next ?

Now that the forums are ready and that I wrote a few articles on the website, it is now time to advertise a bit in order to grow the community :tada:.

I hired a video producer to create a promotional video and i think the result looks pretty good :

So next step will be to promote this a bit everywhere :).

Oh, and I’m working on a deep article to talk about latency, hit registration and all that…stay tuned soldier !
